Member of ‘Amrit Dalam’ gang lands in police net

It was during investigation on Friday that the victim’s family invited the caller to accept the first instalment of Rs 10 lakh. When the two suspects reached the scene to collect the money, one of them was overpowered and arrested by police officials, who had been deployed with the jeweller by the police. Though the police are yet to divulge details of the action taken on Friday, it is suspected that the miscreant who escaped from the scene had received a gunshot during the scuffle.
Investigating officer Randhir Singh said one assailant had been nabbed by police officials posted at the Division Number 7 police station but his identity was yet to be ascertained.
The police had registered an FIR against the unidentified members of the Amrit Dalam gang, who had threatened victim Sachin Verma of the Tazpur Road area to seek extortion of Rs 1 crore on December 4.
Besides launching a probe, the police provided two gunmen to the victim’s family.
The miscreants were shocked to face unexpected resistance and one of them was held captive by the police when they came to collect the money.
