Monsoon preparedness: Mayor, MC chief hold meeting, 24x7 flood control room set up

During the meeting, the officials were directed to work on a ‘war footing’ and ensure mobilisation of resources in advance. The officials concerned have been directed to ensure that no manhole should be left uncovered and wherever required, those should be repaired /replaced at the earliest. Further, they had been directed to ensure that road gullies were cleaned on a regular basis. They had also been directed to get the same certified from councillors and submit respective certificates with the higher authorities.
Further, the officials have been directed to ensure removal of rubble from bridge construction sites over the Buddha Dariya, so that it should not cause any obstruction in the flow of water in the nullah. The officials should also ensure regular desilting of the Buddha Dariya and proper working of sewage treatment plants (STP).
MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Chief Engineer Ravinder Garg, Superintending Engineer (SE) Sham Lal Gupta, SE Rahul Gagneja, SE Ranjit Singh, SE Praveen Singla, MTP Vijay Kumar, Executive Engineer Parshotam Singh, Executive Engineer (sewerage board) Balraj Singh, SDOs and JEs of operations and maintenance (O&M) cell of the MC were among those others present in the meeting.
The Mayor and MC Commissioner also directed the officials to ensure availability of required sand bags and generator sets at disposal points and flood lights to drain out rainwater in case of any emergency. Proper arrangements should also be made to avoid waterlogging at railway under bridges in the city.
Also, directions have been issued to put a full stop to the ongoing work of laying underground wires, if any, across the city.
The officials have also been directed to ensure that the residents should not face any trouble due to water contamination and if any complaint was submitted by them regarding the same, it should be resolved at the earliest. The building branch officials had also been asked to issue notices to owners of unsafe buildings in the city.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said all steps were being taken to avoid waterlogging during monsoon season and the public should also support the civic body in the course. They said they would also be conducting field inspections for taking stock of the situation at the ground level.
For ensuring safety and reducing the reaction time, the civic body has established a 24x7 flood control room at its Daresi sub-zone office. In case waterlogging is witnessed in their areas, residents can call 0161-2749120 and civic body teams will reach the spot for resolving the problem at the earliest.
Mayor conducts inspection on Rahon road
Mayor Inderjit Kaur also conducted an inspection on the Rahon road and directed that the work of cleaning sewer lines with super suction machines should be expedited, so that residents should not face any trouble due to waterlogging. She also interacted with residents of Chanderlok Colony.
Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain, SDO Amritpal Singh, other officials and residents of the area were among those others present during the inspection.
