NDRF personnel trained by PAU entomologists in beekeeping

Ludhiana, July 11

The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), here conducted a three-day scientific beekeeping training course for National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.

Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, stated that such training would help extend the role of the PAU further in the remote areas and thereby contribute to enhancing incomes for those communities.

Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar, head, Department of Entomology, highlighted the significance of the hands-on-training in various aspects of beekeeping, helping the trainees in understanding and applying the scientific principles. The course endeavoured at providing technical skill in starting and managing beekeeping units for the NDRF personnel, added Dr Bhullar.

Dr Jaspal Singh, course director, shared that the trainees were imparted training in seasonal colony management, bee products, bee diseases and enemies. During the active service period, these personnel might act as trainers providing vital first-hand technical input on this crucial agricultural subsidiary occupation to their fellows, he observed. This would also create livelihood opportunities for these personnel after attaining the age of superannuation, he added.
