The counter will facilitate booking of speed post, registered post and registered parcels and will operate from 5 pm to 11 pm daily.
The initiative has been welcomed by residents and postal staff alike, who see it as a move towards more citizen-friendly services.
“This counter will benefit people who are unable to visit post offices during regular hours. It’s a meaningful addition to our public-facing infrastructure,” said Harjinder Singh Bhatti, Senior Superintendent, RMS LD Division, Ludhiana.
Parveen Bala, superintendent sorting, Ludhiana, said: “We are committed to improving service delivery and public convenience. Launching the facility
on Independence Day reflects our dedication to national service and community outreach.”
Local residents echoed the sentiments. Ravinder Kaur, a schoolteacher from BRS Nagar, said: “It’s great to see postal services adapting to people’s needs. Evening hours make a big difference for working families like ours.”
The Transshipment Centre, which primarily handles high-volume mail movement, now doubles as a booking point — bringing core services closer to residential areas. Officials said the counter would help reduce congestion at main post offices and offer convenience to citizens in the western part of the city.
