The matter is related to encroachments over green belts by the MC itself in the way of constructing a library in a park, concretisation of green belts from Sherpur Chowk to Jagraon bridge and by the Lodhi Club and Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in BRS Nagar.

The case was filed by the Council of Engineers through its president Er Kapil Arora in October 2022.

As per the master plan of Ludhiana, the area is a green belt and the DTP had also confirmed the same to the Deputy Commissioner, MC and PPCB. But to allow encroachments and illegal parking, the report was prepared, mentioning the areas as part of the road, Arora said.

The civic body has failed to provide the development plan (master plan) before the NGT, showing the actual status of the land.
