The Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), observed Parthenium awareness week under the aegis of ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur. Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education; Dr Hari Ram, head, Department of Agronomy; Dr Simerjeet Kaur, Principal Agronomist, among others from the Department of Agronomy, participated in these programmes.

The lecture was delivered to NCC cadets and control measures were demonstrated. After detailed deliberations on Parthenium, eradication campaign was also launched at sites infested with this weed.

Lectures on Parthenium and its management were also delivered to graduate and postgraduate students, highlighting the harmful effects of the weed on human and animal health and their control measures. Faculty and students of the department manually uprooted Parthenium from different sites on the campus. It may be mentioned that Mansuran village, adopted in 2016, was regularly monitored throughout the year and a drives were organised to check and uproot any new flushes of Parthenium. Dr Bhullar visited the village and applauded the residents for maintaining a Parthenium-free village.
