It is fascinating to see Indians, particularly Punjabis, making a mark in Australia and representing the country at international sports events. Players of Indian origin, nine in the men’s section and six in the women’s, are part of Australian teams at the Kho Kho World Cup underway at Delhi.

Three siblings—Mansimran Singh Grewal, Dapinder Singh Grewal, and Komal Kaur Grewal—from Ludhiana are part of the Australian squads for the World Cup.

The family’s journey began 17 years ago when the family moved to Australia and settled there. It’s a testament to their hard work and determination to build a new life in a foreign land that these children are now making their parents proud by representing the country at the World Cup.

Their father, a Punjabi writer and journalist, Professor Tawindervir Singh Grewal, was a mix of pride, elation, with a hint of nostalgia, having a deep connection to his Indian heritage, but seeing his children represent Australia, their adopted country.

Talking to The Tribune, Professor Grewal said he was supporting his children’s journey, even when it meant competing against their birth nation. That takes a lot of grace and sportsmanship, he said.
