Hosts Punjab scored wins in the boys and girls (U-17) sections in netball in their respective semi finals to set up the title clash in the boys U-17 section in netball event on the fifth day of the 68th National School Games being organised by the Punjab Education Department under the aegis of School Games Federation of India at three venues here on Sunday.

In the boys’ group, Punjab players proved too good for their opponents from Delhi whom they edged out 17-14 while their counterparts got the better of Karnataka 30-17 to secure their berths in the summit clash.

Chhattisgarh boys faced a stiff challenge from Vidya Bharti before wrapping up the issue 24-22 and booked their berth in the final and in the girl’s section, Chhattisgarh outperformed Haryana 18-12 to book a place in the final against Punjab.

In judo (boys U-19), Pawan Kumar of Punjab came out triumphant in the below 73kg category and Sailesh Wharwad of Gujarat secured second position while Varun Kumar of Chhattisgarh and Prikshit Singh of Jammu and Kashmir shared the third position.

In the girls section (judo below 57kg weight), Khushi of Gujarat won the gold medal. Ishu Kaushik of Delhi bagged silver while Suman of Rajasthan and Azanmanz of J&K got bronze medal, jointly.

In below 63kg category, Stanzin Daechan (Delhi) and Mehak Rawat of Punjab bagged gold and silver medals, respectively whereas Amruta Chougule (Maharashtra) and Debori Darlong of Tripura shared bronze medal.

In handball (girls U-19), Punjab overpowered Delhi 19-9, Haryana defeated Chandigarh 15-7, Himachal Pradesh outnumbered Kerala 22-12 and Rajasthan prevailed over Gujarat 27-25 to complete the semi final slots.

In the boy’s section (handball), Haryana beat CBSE 33-29, Bihar scraped past Chandigarh 33-32, Punjab pipped Maharashtra 17-7 and Delhi outwitted Rajasthan 39-35 to complete the semi final line-up.
