Baliawal highlighted that villages such as Sasarali, Boothgarh Banjara and Sasarali Colony suffered massive destruction during the recent floods caused by the overflowing Sutlej. Farmers lost not only their standing crops but also large stretches of agricultural land.
In his letter, Baliawal reminded the Chief Minister of his announcement made on September 12, assuring that all flood-affected families would receive compensation before Diwali. However, even after over a month has passed since Diwali, the majority of the victims continue to wait for the relief.
He said families of 77 farmers in Sahnewal had not received a single rupee of compensation so far. He criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government for turning the compensation drive into a ‘photo-op exercise’ while genuine victims continue to face hardships and uncertainty.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that compensation was credited to bank accounts of all pending beneficiaries without further delay.
The BJP leader has also submitted the list of 77 affected farmers, along with his letter, to the Chief Minister for urgent action.
