Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe state government has begun the process of disbursing compensation to farmers in the flood-hit Sasrali village. However, residents said so far only about 30 to 35 farmers had received the amount while many others are still awaiting compensation for crop losses they suffered during the floods that hit the region in July and September due to excessive rainfall in the state.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the process was on and compensation was being provided after assessing the extent of crop damage. “In coming days, all eligible farmers, whose documents were verified, will receive the due compensation,” he said.
Kapoor Singh, former sarpanch of Sasrali, said he received compensation for 2.5 acres of land jointly owned by six brothers. “While I have got around Rs 11,000, my brothers are still waiting for their share,” he said.
Another villager, Sultan Singh, said his 3.5 acres of poplar trees were damaged in the floods but he was yet to receive any compensation despite having completed all formalities on time.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Singh, another farmer, said he received about Rs 50,000 for six acres of damaged crop.
The villagers maintained that though the government had started releasing the payments, the process is slow. “We are hopeful that everyone will get compensation soon,” said another resident.
