Cutting across party lines, councillors owing allegiance to various political parties led by Aam Aadmi Party legislator Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra unanimously elected senior SAD leader Jagwant Singh Jaggie as vice-president of the municipal council here on Monday.

Jaggie, who is poised to take charge as acting president in absence of council chief Vikas Krishan Sharma, is a confidante of senior SAD leader late Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

Although the dream of Jaggie to hold office as senior vice-president or vice-president did not fructify during SAD regime, his sober and adjustable disposition towards leaders of all political parties helped him get the office of vice-president of the municipal council when Razia Sultana was associate member of the council during the Congress regime in 2007.

Jaggie had also contested for this post during a meeting held earlier on September 12, 2024. However, the election was cancelled when some councillors had raised their hands in favour of both candidates, Jaggie and Geeta Shahi.

Assistant Commissioner-cum-SDM, Ahmedgarh, Gurmeet Kumar Bansal said an election meeting had been convened under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Malerkotla, Viraj S Tidke where Jaggie was declared elected vice-president unanimously.
