The march began from the Deputy Commissioner’s office where leaders from various organizations addressed the rally. They stated that the government of India and Pakistan are busy implementing corporate-friendly policies. They claimed that these rulers have failed miserably in providing basic amenities like healthcare, education, and employment to the people.

The leaders alleged that to maintain their power, these rulers are trying to divert people’s attention by creating a war-like atmosphere and fostering jingoistic patriotism. They emphasized that peace-loving people will never tolerate this and that war only leads to destruction, failing to resolve any issues.

The leaders unanimously condemned the India and Pakistan, warning that if they impose war on the people, they will face opposition. They appealed to the public to join hands in opposing war and demanded that people-friendly policies be implemented to eradicate terrorism, enabling people to live peaceful lives.

Mandi Ahmedgarh: Office-bearers and activists of various units of constituents of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) in the region, falling under Ludhiana and Malerkotla districts, protested against the Union Government for allegedly diverting attention of masses from basic issues on the pretext of escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Peace marches were held at the district level to spread awareness about the need for peace in the region.

Immediate check on religion-based politics, fake jingoism, accumulation of modern war weapons, exploitation of youth on the pretext of patriotism and alleged diversion of huge funds in the name of defence were among major issues raised by the protesters.

Baldev Singh Latala, a state-level leader of the All India Kisan Sabha, said office-bearers and activists of various units of almost all constituents of the SKM had organised peace marches at Ludhiana and Malerkotla, responding to a state-level call given by morcha leaders.

Addressing meetings at various places, the speakers alleged that the Union Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had been exploiting the war-like situation in the country for diverting the attention of the common man from alleged failures of the government in various fields of governance.

“Instead of solving basic issues of the people, the Centre is bent upon destabilising the economy of the nation by posing a threat of war with Pakistan,” said Latala while advocating friendly relations with the neighbouring country to minimise defence expenses. — OC
