In an official statement, the controller of examinations said the new dates for the exams scheduled on May 13 and 14 would be announced later while the examinations scheduled on and after May 15 will be held as per schedule.

However, several schools and colleges across the city will remain closed on May 12 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and will reopen from May 13 onwards. Central Government offices across the country will remain closed on Monday, since Buddha Purnima is a gazetted holiday.

“It was such a relief to hear that normalcy has returned to the city. The worst sufferer were students. Though online classes were conducted by school but these never match upto the actual classroom teachng,” said Raman, a mother of two from Gurdev Nagar.

Further, another undergraduate student, Prekshi, said one could never do full preparation when there was such uncertainty. “I was studying but half-heartedly. Now, that things are clear and colleges are reopening, I will be able to study in a planned manner. Our exams are starting from Wednesday,” she said.

Hostellers who have returned home are also making plans to come back. “Our university had announced off till May 12, as Monday is a holiday on account of Buddh Purnima. Hence, I will be returning on Monday as classes will resume from Tuesday,” said a student from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

All educational institutions in the state were closed for three days on May 8, in the wake of the escalating India-Pakistan conflict.
