Six members of the self-help group Satluj, formed under the National Urban Livelihood Mission and Punjab State Livelihood Mission, have enhanced their income by selling compost prepared from garbage collected by the Ahmedgarh Municipal Council.
“Unlike other SHGs, we were more interested in serving society than earning livelihood by accepting a challenge to contribute in solving the uphill task of solid waste management in the city,” group leader Paviter Kumar Burman said, maintaining that members of the SHG were satisfied with their share of earning, though not enough to sustain households, made by selling compost to residents keen in their kitchen gardens.
