Singers from across Punjab join drive

Ludhiana, June 26

Prominent singers from Punjab are participating in a campaign initiated by the Ludhiana police against drugs. Several Punjabi singers have been sending their video messages to Ludhiana Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal. These video messages against drugs are being shared by the Ludhiana Commissionerate on its official Facebook page and Twitter handle.

These video messages are being viewed by thousands of viewers and hundreds of comments are being posted. The police had launched this campaign in view of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on June 26.

The first message was posted by Punjabi and bollywood singer Kamal Khan. In his message, he says: “The Ludhiana CP launched a campaign against drugs and for the rehabilitation of drug addicts so that they can become part of the mainstream society. I wish people who are in the hell of smuggling will leave this trade and people who have become drug addicts will shun the drugs and also encourage others to become good citizens.”

Another singer Gurlez Akhtar in her video message says: “Many youngsters are on the track of drug smuggling and drug addiction. Now the time is ripe when drug addicts should shun drugs and live a prosperous life.”

Another eminent Punjabi singer Ravinder Grewal said: “The campaign launched by the Ludhiana CP against drugs on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is well-needed to save the youth of Punjab falling prey to the drugs.”

As part of the campaign against drugs, the police yesterday morning had also launched ‘Operation Rat Hunt’ in which extensive search operation was carried out in Talwandi Kalan village and during the operation, 10 habitual criminals, including three women, were rounded up in a suspicious state. Three cases under the NDPS Act were registered.
