Six land in police dragnet with 1.1 kg of heroin

In a special drive initiated to nab criminals supplying drugs under the command of Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav Bains, SP (D) Pawanjeet Chaudhary, DSP Mohit Kumar Singla, DSP (D) and in-charge CIA, Khanna, Hardeep Singh, Payal DSP Hemant Malhotra and Doraha SHO Akash Dutt, a police team, led by ASI Sukhwinder Singh, successfully conducted an operation under which the arrests have been made. Gurlal Singh, alias Gora, Mohammad Irshad and Davinder Singh were arrested with 1.005 kg of heroin under various sections of the NDPS Act on September 18 by the Doraha police. During interrogation, it was revealed that the illegal drug supply business was being operated by Lovepreet Singh, lodged in Ropar jail, who has been managing the drug supply to various areas of the state from the prisons.
Following the disclosure, the Ropar jail authorities recovered a mobile from Lovepreet and a case under Section 52 A of the Prisons Act was registered against him. He was brought on production warrant from the Ropar jail and arrested. He was supplying heroin in large quantities to Mahant Kashmir Giri, a resident of Khanna, who was further supplying the same with his partner Dinker Kalia and others to their clients. Both were arrested and 50 gm of heroin was seized from Giri while from Dinker and co-accused Vicky and Gulshan, who are also residents of Khanna, the police seized 30 gm of heroin and a Tata Tiago car.
On further interrogation, it came to light that they had procured heroin from Subham Kumar, alias Bamb, a resident of Ludhiana, who was nabbed and 70-gm heroin and a Maruti Swift car were recovered from him.
SSP Jyoti Yadav said the Khanna police had initiated a drive against drug suppliers in the recent past. “We have achieved major successes ever since the launching of the drive. Many members of the drug mafia have been nabbed and major recoveries made from them. Further investigation in the case is on and there are chances of major recoveries,” she said.
