A state-level meeting of the Bharti Kisan Union (Kadian) was held under the chairmanship of state president Harmeet Singh Kadian at a gurdwara here.

Kadian demanded that the state government should implement the order passed by the Supreme Court to state governments on November 6, 2019, as it is and provide the requisite assistance of Rs 2,500 per acre to farmers for the management of stubble. It was for stopping farmers from burning stubble. If the government did not provide the due assistance to the farmers, burning the same will become a necessity for them.

Kadian said through another resolution, a demand was made that a buffer stock of DAP should be made available for the sowing of wheat, vegetables and other crops.

In a separate resolution, it was highlighted that the moisture content in paddy has significantly increased due to recent rains and weather humidity. Therefore, the moisture condition for paddy, which is currently 17 per cent, should be increased to 22 per cent. A large amount of the paddy crop has been hit by sheath blight due to the weather, which has not been controlled by any pesticide. As a result, the yield per acre of paddy has decreased. Therefore, a bonus of ?500 per acre should be given to the farmers to provide relief. Furthermore, Punjab Agricultural University should conduct a new research to find a solution for sheath blight and recommend new pesticides.

In addition to these points, an action plan was also prepared to help the farmers in flood-affected areas.
