As students in large numbers vied for top honours in various field and track events during the annual athletics meet of Malwa Central College of Education for Women on Tuesday, Poonamdeep Kaur, a students of second semester, was adjudged the best athlete.

District Sports Officer, Kuldeep Chugh, inaugurated the meet, while Dr Sukhdev Singh, member of the Canadian Wrestling Club, Surrey, was the guest of honour at the opening function. Dr Tripta read out the annual report, highlighting the achievements of college students during various tournaments in the current academic session.

In the 100-m race, Narinder Kaur emerged as the winner, while Jasmeen Sidhu won the top position in the shot put event, and Gurnoor Kaur came out triumphant in the high jump event.

Gurleen Kaur, in the 400-m race; Simran Batth in in discus throw and Amandeep Kaur in the 200-m race romped home victorious, whereas in the long jump event, Poonamdeep Kaur pipped her opponents to wrap up the trophy.

In the relay race, the team comprising Shilpa, Aditi, Harman, and Simran got the better of their rivals to emerge winners. In the 800-m race, Muskan Singla emerged triumphant. In the javelin throw, Tewanpreet Kaur got the top spot, and in the spoon-lemon race, Kritika Gupta logged victory. Kalpana won in rope skipping, Anjali Dhiman in the chatti race, and Megha and Pooja lifted the winners’ trophy in the three-legged race. In tug of war, students, representing BEd semester four, proved too good for their opponents and emerged the winners.

Principal Satwant Kaur, along with Dr Mukti Gill, director of Khalsa Institutions; Dr Harpreet Kaur, principal of Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology; and Dr Kamaljeet Kaur, principal of Khalsa College for Women, besides office-bearers of Khalsa Dewan, including Gursimran Singh Grewal and Ravinder Kaur, were among others present there.
