A rally, to raise awareness on substance abuse, was taken out by the students and staff of SRM Convent School, Pohir, as a part of the local police’s campaign against social evils, including illiteracy, eve teasing, and the dowry system, besides drug addiction. More than 100 students participated in the rally that commenced at the city police station and passed through the town and surrounding localities.

The region is one of the centres identified as the most vulnerable in terms of substance abuse in the state. While the administration had already launched a coordinated movement to spread awareness about the issue, the school authorities, led by chairman Jawahar Mittal, chose to buttress the administration’s campaign by organising rallies and workshops in the region.

Students raised slogans and carried placards, highlighting the causes and consequences of drug abuse during the march.

Convener of the event, SHO Aditya Sharma, said Ahmedgarh DSP Rajan Sharma had roped in the authorities at the school to buttress a campaign launched by the police for spreading awareness about the issue.

During the concluding session of the event, the students vowed to act as ambassadors of the campaign to eradicate drug abuse.
