What was once primarily known as an entertainment platform has now evolved into a valuable educational tool that students can leverage to enhance their learning experience beyond the classroom.

A few years ago, most students used to attend tuition classes to prepare for their board exams but now it seems YouTube has become the default source of knowledge. It offers a vast array of educational channels and content that cover a wide range of subjects. From tutorials on complex mathematical problems to in-depth discussions on literature and history, there’s something for every student’s academic needs.

Vanya Sood, secured 98 per cent in the recently declared CBSE Class XII exams. “I never took tuition and relied on self-study and took help from YouTube for extra studies. Going to tuition means wasting a lot of time in commuting and I rather preferred studying at home on YouTube at my own preferred time,” she said.

As a student of commerce, Vanya took lessons in economics and accounts from YouTube and all her numerical problems were also solved through online lessons only. I utilised the time of summer vacations and saw maximum videos during this time,” she said.

Manisha, whose daughter takes help from YouTube, said, “A wide range of educational content, including lectures, tutorials and practice problems, covering various subjects and grades is available on YouTube. My daughter is in Class IX and I have subscribed to a channel for lectures in history and geography. The way of teaching of the teacher is excellent and the latter teaches history like a story. My daughter has developed interest in history, which initially she used to hate.”

Besides YouTube, various apps are available. “I downloaded an app and subscribed to lectures for the entire semester for just Rs 1,100, which included lectures, notes and test series. The best part is that I can attend the lectures according to my own convenient time,” said Sasha, who is studying for Class XII.

“The Covid-19 pandemic forced education to move online. Students got access to devices and some also got personal phones and tabs. I started uploading lectures in English grammar online and in no time my subscribers started increasing and today I have over one lakh subscribers and I have uploaded lectures for Classes VIII tp XII,” said Upasana, a teacher.
