The incident was captured on CCTV.
According to people present there, the dog was sitting peacefully in the street when a car approached and ran directly over it. As the injured dog cried out in pain, instead of stopping, the driver reversed the car and drove over the animal again, causing severe injuries. The dog reportedly suffered a fractured spine and was rushed to the animal hospital for treatment.
Area resident Ramesh Bangar said the entire incident was captured on camera. It looked intentional. The dog was just sitting there, not chasing or barking. The driver could have stopped or swerved, but he didn’t. He drove over it deliberately and then went back and forth.
Dog lover Rajinderpal Singh was passing by shortly after the incident. Hearing the dog’s cries, he stopped to help and spoke to locals, who informed him about what had happened. After checking the footage and making inquiries, he identified the driver as a man named Rahul, reportedly a government school teacher.
The residents also handed over the CCTV footage and the vehicle's number plate — Punjab 10JF4124 — to the police. A complaint was also lodged at Police Division 2, and the police started investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the injured dog is being treated at a local animal hospital. Local animal welfare activists and residents are demanding strict action against the driver, calling the act inhumane.
