A teenage girl died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Himmat Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road. A few days ago, the girl had gone missing and was traced by the police on Friday morning. On Friday evening, while playing with her siblings she had arguments with the latter. Following which she took the extreme step.

The matter came to light when the deceased’s father returned home from work. He was shocked to see her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan. She was brought down and taken to the nearest hospital but doctors referred him to the Civil Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The girl’s father told mediapersons that his daughter wanted to marry her female friend and he was not agreeing to it, fearing social boycott of the family. Three days ago, she had also gone missing from home with her female friend. On Friday morning, she was found sitting in a park by the police. Late on Friday evening, she had arguments with her three siblings over some issue. Afterwards, she locked herself in the room and took the extreme step.

The deceased’s father said he had four children, three girls and one boy. The daughter who died by suicide was the second child.

Dugri SHO inspector Gurpreet Singh said the victim was a school-going student. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigation was on.
