To check vector-borne disease spread, Khanna SDM reviews preparedness

In a pro-active move to combat the growing threat of vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Khanna, Baljinder Singh Dhillon, convened a meeting of officials from various departments today. The meeting aimed to review the preparedness and response mechanism in place to tackle the disease and ensure a coordinated effort to mitigate its impact. The SDM also urged residents to play their part in preventing the spread of dengue by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.

He instructed the team of the Health Department to ensure that the material, which can be a source of dengue, is discarded there and then. Teams should reach the unvisited spots till now to create awareness and check the leakage spots, which might be a reason for the spread of the fever.

Private hospitals, private labs, government hospitals and slums, etc. should be regularly visited to conduct a surprise check and caution the organisations and establishments to abide by the necessary norms, which might serve as a stimulus for the spread of dengue.

The SDM also directed the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to undertake extensive fogging operations in rural areas. Similarly, the Nagar Council was tasked with conducting fogging in urban areas to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The Water and Sanitation Department was instructed to conduct regular water sampling tests and ensure proper chlorination of water sources to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.

“We are taking steps at our own level and educating the public regarding precautions against dengue by holding door-to-door visits. Friday is observed as a dry day to check and remove all stagnant water from residential places and other public places as well. The residents need not panic, rather keep themselves protected. Awareness activities are being carried out in collaboration with various educational institutions as a matter of routine,” the SDM added.
