In a brutal incident, a truck driver was brutally attacked by the driver and conductor of a bus near Bija in Khanna this evening, when the former was coming from Khanna to Sahnewal. Despite his injuries, the truck driver managed to drive the truck to Sahnewal, where he strategically parked it to block the national highway in protest. He also refused medical treatment till the driver and the conductor of the bus were booked by the police.

Harjinder Singh, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing in Sahnewal, was driving his truck from Khanna to Sahnewal when the driver of the bus, following the truck, signalled him for overtaking. As the victim was still in the process of doing it, the bus driver in a fit of rage broke the window pane of his truck. Not only this, he along with his conductor attacked the victim with a rod and stick, injuring him badly.

Harjinder somehow drove till Sahnewal and on reaching there, parked the truck in the middle, bringing the entire traffic on the national highway to a halt. He then walked to Sahnewal police station to file a case.

Talking to this correspondent, Harjinder said that he was attacked by the driver and conductor of the bus and he had gone to the police station, demanding action against the two. Harjinder also blocked the national highway with his truck in protest and asked for action against the alleged accused by Sahnewal police.

Owing to this, traffic came to a complete halt as the driver refused to remove the truck till his demand was met. On assurance by the Sahnewal police, the driver removed the truck, however, with a warning to resume the protest in front of Sahnewal police station in case the latter failed to act.

The dharna lasted for about an hour, which led to utter confusion and chaos on the road. The police had a tough time managing the huge rush. The commuters on the highway were forced to take link roads, which further aggravated the situation for the villagers on the periphery. The situation took more than an hour to normalise.

Sahnewal SHO Gurmukh Singh Deol said the case would be registered according to the MLR and the written statement of the victim. “Both truck as well as the bus have been impounded,” he added.
