Truck rams into stationary bus; one dead, 15 injured

A truck rammed into a stationary bus on national highway near Ludhiana zoo yesterday late night. About 15 passengers suffered injuries in the mishap and a person died on the spot.

The collision was so intense that the bus overturned while the driver cabin of the truck got separated from the rear part of the truck.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh Kumar, a resident of Kathua.

Investigating Officer ASI Bhajan Singh said the bus was heading to Jammu from Haridwar and on the way, it’s tyre got punctured. Bus driver stopped bus on the side of the highway near Ludhiana zoo. As he was changing the tyre, a speedy truck came and rammed into the bus from rear side. Some passengers were sitting inside the bus while some were standing on the road.

After the accident, truck driver fled from the spot.

The ASI added that about 15 passengers, including some women, suffered injuries in the mishap. All were rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Three to four passengers, including the driver of the bus, suffered serious injuries. Family members of the serious passengers took their kin from Civil Hospital to get them admitted to a hospital near Jammu.

The ASI said truck driver fled from the spot after the accident. A case was registered against the truck driver and efforts were on to trace him.
