The Ludhiana (rural) police claimed to have arrested two more miscreants, including the key suspect, in a extortion case on Thursday. An attempt to extort Rs 10 lakh from a resident of Waraich village was made on October 26 and Rs 50,000 was allegedly taken away by the suspects.

As per information, Narinder Singh of Waraich village in Ludhiana district had informed the police on October 30 that 12 persons, led by his brother-in-law Jasvir Singh (wife’s brother) of Shehzad village, Veerpal Singh, Jugraj Singh, Manpreet Singh, Amninder Singh and Kulwinder Singh, had entered his house forcibly on October 26 and demanded Rs 10 lakh from him. While all suspects were carrying weapons, Jasvir aimed a pistol at him and threatened to kill him in case his demand was not met. The suspects took away Rs 50,000 before leaving the scene.

While the police had nabbed Manpreet and Kulwinder on the day of registering the FIR, the main suspect, Jasvir, and Veerpal were arrested on Thursday.

Investigation by police officials, supervised by DSP Varinder Khosa, revealed that Jasvir had borrowed the pistol used in the crime from someone else, whose name would be included in the case after identification.

Though the incident had occurred late on October 26, the victim had not reported the matter to the police as the suspects had threatened him with dire consequences if the matter was reported to the police.

“When I noticed my brother-in-law Jasvir near my residence again, I decided to lodge a complaint with the police as he had threatened to come again to collect the money,” Narinder Singh told the police while filing the complaint.
