Two of gang arrested, eight bikes recovered

The police claimed to have busted a gang of miscreants that has been involved in stealing and looting of motorcycles and selling them by removing their number plates.

Eight bikes were recovered from two members of the gang, identified as Happy Singh, alias Guddi, of Ram Nagar Basti, Sangrur, and Mohammad Shahid, alias Sahil, of Chamri Wala Khooh in Malerkotla.

SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said police officials, supervised by SP (D) Satpal Sharma, DSP (D) Satish Kumar and CIA Mahorana in-charge Harsimran Singh had nabbed Happy and Sahil from different places on the basis of inputs received during a campaign launched against anti-social elements.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used to sell stolen vehicles after removing their registration number plates.

Owners of the recovered bikes would be identified on the basis of engine and chassis numbers of the vehicles.

The police are yet to ascertain the identity of other members of the gang.
