The Sadar police claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers and nabbed two of its members.

The suspects were identified as Prabhdeep Singh (32) and Gaganpreet Singh (32), residents of Dugri village. The police also recovered a wallet recently snatched from a city resident, two mobile phones, one sword and a motorcycle being used in crime.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) Harjinder Singh said in a statement issued in this regard.

On June 4, Anil Arora, a resident of Basant Avenue, had lodged a police complaint in which he stated that he was returning from his factory on a Honda Activa scooter in the night. When he reached Global Park in Basant Avenue, two men aged around 30-32 years came on a silver motorcycle (bearing registration no Punjab 10 EY 7566). One of them was carrying a double-edged short knife in his hand.

They pointed the weapon and threatened to kill him. The suspects snatched his wallet, which contained his important documents. They took the RC of his scooter and Rs 21,140 in cash from him and fled towards BCM School.

ACP Harjinder Singh said after receiving a complaint, a case was registered against the unidentified miscreants at the Sadar police station. On June 5, the suspects were identified and wallet of the victim was also recovered. They were also produced in a court which remanded them in one-day police custody.

He said among the suspects, Gaganpreet has a criminal past as three cases, including of NDPS Act, snatching and theft, was registered against him in the past.
