The project, ‘Strengthening Veterinary Hemodialysis Through Experiential Learning: Transforming Dialysis Unit into an Educational Hub’, will be led by Dr Randhir Singh, in-charge of the dialysis unit, supported by Dr Gurpreet Singh, Dr Rajsukhbir Singh and Dr SS Randhawa as co-investigators.
A notable benefit of the grant is the proposed establishment of the world’s first advanced online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) technique in dogs. The milestone will position the university at the forefront of veterinary dialysis innovation.
Dr JPS Gill, Vice-Chancellor, commended the team for their dedication and innovation in integrating advanced veterinary care with quality education. He emphasised that dialysis for pets was a highly specialised and technically demanding modality globally, practiced exclusively in a limited number of veterinary institutions and since its inception in 2019, the dialysis unit at the university has emerged as a national leader in renal replacement therapies for pets.
Dr SK Uppal, Dean of Post Graduate Studies, said the grant from ICAR for strengthening the dialysis unit would further strengthen veterinary nephrology and dialysis practice in the country.
