Vet varsity organises camp in flood-hit Tarn Taran district

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, extended a hand to residents of flood-affected areas. An animal welfare and health camp was organised in Tarn Taran district.

The camp was conducted with the goal of providing immediate veterinary assistance, preventive healthcare and essential feed supplies to the distressed livestock population. A team of veterinary experts and interns students participated in the camp, offering their expertise and services to the farmers. The experts provided treatment and free medicine to the animals of flood-affected farmers.

The All Feed Millers Association (AFMA), Punjab, donated 75 quintal of cattle feed during the camp. Laljit Singh Bhullar, Cabinet Minister for Jail, Transport and Hospitality, graced the occasion. He appreciated the efforts of both AFMA and the university. He remarked, “Such initiatives during this critical time reflect true commitment towards our community.”

Dr JPS Gill, Vice-Chancellor, said, “It is truly commendable that the regional research and training centre and KVK Booth staff went beyond their official responsibilities and personally contributed to arrange silage for farmers. Their compassion and dedication reflect the true spirit of our university.”

AFMA president Ashok Kumar said, “We recognise the challenges that farmers are facing due to the floods. The donation is just the beginning. We are fully committed to continuing our support, especially once the water recedes and recovery efforts begin in earnest.”

The event was organised under the guidance of Dr RS Grewal, Director of Extension Education. Dr Grewal said another flood relief camp would be organised at Ladhuke Mandi, Fazilka, on September 5.

During the camp, various services, including treatment of ailing animals, vaccination and deworming, gynaecological check-ups and reproductive health consultations, distribution of fodder and feed, awareness sessions on post-flood livestock care, disease management and nutrition, were provided on-the-spot. A large number of farmers attended the camp.
