Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has secured a prestigious project, ‘A multi-omics approach for pig production,’ worth Rs 91 lakh, under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) scheme. An interdisciplinary team of faculty members from the university will work on the project, which comes under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India. The project focuses on exploring nutritional interventions and studying their effects at genomic levels. The research seeks to uncover the biological mechanisms behind the utilisation and effects of essential amino acids and micronutrients in pigs. This knowledge is expected to identify key genes and their regulation in response to micronutrient supplementation, reduce feed costs, and optimise animal-source food production.
