A delegation of interns from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) met Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian on Monday to demand an increase in their internship stipend.

Currently receiving Rs 500 per day, the interns highlighted that their compensation was significantly lower than that offered by veterinary universities in neighbouring states. They submitted a formal demand letter, requesting a revised stipend of Rs 24,310 per month, aligning with national standards.

In response, the minister forwarded the representation to Rahul Bhandari, Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry. The latter acknowledged the disparity and supported the proposal to bring veterinary stipend in line with MBBS interns in the state, who receive Rs 22,000 per month.

The matter has now been escalated to the Chief Secretary, Director of Animal Husbandry, and the Finance Department for further consideration and action.
