Woman dies as speeding mini-truck hits scooter

A speeding pick-up vehicle (chota hathi) hit a scooter on the Lalheri Road railway bridge in Khanna on Monday. The woman riding the two-wheeler died in the mishap. She was returning home after dropping her younger son at school on the Amloh Road. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Kaur Nandi Colony.

In the accident, the victim’s head hit the pole and she died on the spot.

The deceased’s mother-in-law Baljeet Kaur said the woman’s husband stays in Kolkata and she lived in Khanna with her younger son. Her son, who studies in kindergarten, used to go to school by van till a month ago. But after the van service was stopped, Harpreet Kaur used to drop her son to school on her scooter.

According to Khanna City SHO inspector Tarvinder Bedi, the suspect fled with his vehicle after the mishap. The police have started a probe into the case and the body of the deceased was kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital.
