The Drainage Department has started strengthening banks on Sutlej river at five vulnerable locations in Ludhiana district. Officials claimed that the entire work would be completed by July 15.

Repair and strengthening work has commenced at Garhi Fazal near Mattewara, where a bund had got damaged last year. Officials said they have also started desilting of drains in the district. Harjot Singh, Executive Engineer, Drainage Department, said, “We are strengthening bunds at Dhulewal, Mattewara, Seed Farms near Ladhowal, Khera Bet and Manewal. We are hopeful that the ongoing work will be completed by July 15.” — TNS
