The victim’s mother informed the police on Thursday that the suspect had allured and violated her minor daughter on the pretext of marriage on September 28. The youth deserted her on October 1, when she asked him to keep his promise of marrying her.

The complainant said the victim was brought from the city to Jagraon after she narrated her story to her mother over phone on October 1.

Police officials, led by investigating officer Kirandeep Kaur, have initiated a probe into the sequence of events. The suspect is yet to be arrested.
