Youth dies of suspected drug overdose

In Jagraon, a youth died of suspected drug overdose while allegedly injecting drugs into his arm on Monday. As per information, this morning, a young man was found dead in an old well room located along the main gate of Government Sanmati Science and Research College on Raikot Road here. On inspection, a syringe was found injected on the victim’s right arm near the wrist. Many syringes were also found in a garbage bin outside the room.

Councillor Meshi Sahota said he reached the place after getting information and called the police. The police took the body to the Civil Hospital.

Sahota said the deceased did not appear to be a resident of his ward. He might be from a nearby village. Sahota, who is associated with the Congress, said the government had launched a campaign against drugs after three years but it would be successful only if, after questioning drug users, they reach big players who supply drugs to people.

The SHO, Jagraon, SI Amarjit Singh, said a police team was sent to the spot after receiving information about the youth’s death.
