Grab your black umbrellas and channel your inner goth. ‘Wednesday Season 2, Part 2’ is here and it’s a spooky, thrilling ride that will have you snapping along in delight. Everything is familiar, yet fresh, and once again Wednesday Addams takes centre stage with her sharp wit and perfectly-timed stares.
The story plunges us back into the eerie halls of Nevermore Academy, picking up right from the cliffhanger of Part 1. We find our favourite deadpan detective, Wednesday Addams (Ortega), waking up in a hospital bed after being hurled out of a window by Tyler, the unpredictable Hyde. Of course, she survives — the show is named after her, after all.
Her recovery comes with a strange twist. She’s guided by the ghost of former principal Larissa Weems (Christie), who returns as a sassy mentor and Wednesday’s 13th cousin! Their dynamic is one of the highlights of this part, with Weems offering witty banter and sharp advice as Wednesday grapples with the unsettling loss of her psychic powers.
From there, the plot spins into a delightfully macabre web of mysteries and family secrets. Tyler returns with a vengeance, teaming up with his mother Francoise to wreak havoc. But the bigger surprise comes from closer home. Pugsley’s pet zombie, Isaac Night, sheds his harmless act and reveals himself as a genius with a dark past connected to the Addams bloodline. Isaac isn’t just lurking around for brains, he is stealing powers, including Gomez’s. The villains are compelling and the stakes are high, though at times the pacing feels a bit overwhelming as if the show is juggling too many dark secrets all at once.
At its core, though, this season isn’t about the monsters, it is about the relationships. The emotional heart lies in Wednesday’s friendship with the ever-sunny werewolf, Enid Sinclair (Myers). Their odd-couple dynamic — Wednesday in shades of black and Enid radiating rainbows — grounds the series. After being sidelined in Part 1, Enid finally gets her moment to shine here. Their bond is tested in a standout body-swap episode that is equal parts hilarious and heartfelt, with Ortega and Myers leaning into each other’s quirks perfectly.
Add in Agnes, the invisible stalker-turned-friend, and the trio becomes a strange but lovable unit that brings warmth to the gothic gloom.
The season also has fun with its world-building. One of the most entertaining moments comes when the secretive Underworld Society gathers beneath the academy courtyard. The setting is pure gothic spectacle — candles flickering, cloaks swishing, shadows crawling across stone walls. It feels like something pulled from a classic black-and-white horror film, until someone clumsily drops a wafer plate and shatters the mood. It is this balance of spooky and silly that makes ‘Wednesday’ so addictive. The show knows how to wink at its own darkness, keeping things eerie but never joyless.
Tim Burton’s gothic signature is stamped across the final episodes, with stunning visuals featuring creepy crows and lavish costumes. A cameo from Lady Gaga as the enigmatic teacher Rosaline Rotwood is the cherry on top, especially with her song, ‘The Dead Dance’, poised to top the charts.
The season doesn’t end with everything neatly wrapped. Instead, it leaves a lingering shadow, a loose diary page blowing in the wind and the sense that Wednesday’s troubles are far from over. That closing shot of her framed in the jagged school windows is both a warning and a promise.
While not without its flaws — the split-season format disrupts the momentum and a few subplots feel out of place — ‘Wednesday Season 2, Part 2’ ultimately delivers. It is a creepy blast with shocking twists, a stellar cast and a tease for Season 3 that will leave fans desperate for more. So, stream it and savour its dark charm.
