Eleven persons, most of them passengers, were killed on the spot and 16 others were injured on Monday when a Lok Parivahan Roadways Bus carrying them collided head on with a truck at Seruna, 35 km from Bikaner, due to fog on the national highway connecting Jaipur.

After the mishap, the truck’s cabin got engulfed in fire in which its driver was charred to death. Local villagers doused the fire with water buckets.

The deceased included four women and seven men. The drivers of both vehicles also died, Bikaner SP Pradeep Mohan Sharma said.

The injured were rushed to PBM Hospital in Bikaner, where the condition of five patients was critical, the SP said, adding the bodies were being identified as most of them were passengers from Bikaner district.

The bus was on way to Jaipur from Bikaner when the mishap occurred at 7.40 am.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot directed the Bikaner District Administration to provide all help and medical assistance to the victims.
