Shimla, March 13
The elections to the four municipal corporations of Dharamsala, Solan, Mandi and Palampur and six nagar panchayats in Himachal Pradesh will take place on April 7, the State Election Commission announced today.
The four municipal corporations except Dharamsala and the six nagar panchayats–Anni and Nirmand in Kullu, Chirgaon and Nerwa in Shimla, Kandaghat in Solan and Amb in Una–are newly created and will go to the polls for the first time.
According to the poll notification, the nomination will be filed from March 22 to 24 between 11 am to 3 pm. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 25 and the withdrawal of papers may be done on March 27, it said.
The polling will take place on April 7 from 8 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will be conducted at the municipal headquarters immediately after polling.
Significantly, it’s for the first time that the MC elections will be held on party symbol with a provision for disqualification in case of defection. The Bill, making provision for polls on party symbol and anti-defection, was passed by the Vidhan Sabha earlier this week.
