The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed a set of new rules to ensure the safety of children aged four years or less riding pillion on a motorcycle. A draft notification proposes the vehicle speed shall not be more than 40 kmph and the motorcyclist must ensure the child wears a crash helmet. It also proposed the use of safety harness by the motorcycle driver for carrying a child. — TNS
