45 newly-elected RS members take oath; Naidu urges them to uphold rules

Forty five members took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs in the upper house’s chambers, while following physical distancing norms, on Wednesday.

Among them, 36 were newly-elected, including Haryana representative Deepender Hooda.

In a tweet, Hooda said he would be the voice of the poor, farmers and youth in Parliament. 

Addressing the MPs, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu urged them to question their conduct each day to see whether it brought dignity to the House and was ethical. He said they should not fall prey to disruptions and uphold rules and procedures while discharging their duties as lawmakers.

Twelve of the re-elected MPs include Sharad Pawar, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Digvijay Singh and Tiruchi Siva.

Mallikarjun Kharge, former Leader of Congress in 16th Lok Sabha  Sabha, and Congress general secretary K C Venugopal were among the 61 MPs elected to the House.
