Etawah, July 8

In a bizarre turn of events, a bride took two ‘pheras’ at the wedding and then suddenly called off the ceremony saying the groom was “too dark”.

According to reports, the incident took place at Bharthana in Etawah on Thursday when Neeta Yadav was all set to marry Ravi Yadav.

The couple exchanged garlands and trouble began when the actual wedding ceremony started.

After taking two ‘pheras’, Neeta said she was calling off the marriage.

She said the groom shown to her was not the one she was marrying. She said his complexion was too dark for her liking. She left the ‘mandap’ and did not return even after persuasion by her family.

Attempts to convince the bride continued for over six hours after which the groom and the ‘baraat’ agreed to return without solemnising the wedding.

The groom’s father lodged a complaint with the police saying jewellery worth lakhs that had been gifted to the bride had not been returned.

Groom Ravi said his life had been jeopardised after the incident.

“The girl and her family had come to meet me several times and I do not know why they suddenly changed their mind. The incident has traumatised me,” he said. IANS
