SC ex-judge Desai ‘selected’ PCI chief

New Delhi: Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, former Supreme Court judge who headed the delimitation commission for Jammu & Kashmir, is learnt to have been selected to hold the post of the Press Council of India (PCI) chairperson. Sources said a committee comprising VP M Venkaiah Naidu, LS Speaker Om Birla and PCI member Prakash Dubey on Tuesday approved the appointment of Justice Desai (72) as the PCI chairperson at a meeting held here. Soren gets more time to appear before EC

New Delhi: The Election Commission is learnt to have given more time to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to appear before it in connection with a mining lease allotment matter, as the JMM leader informed the poll panel that his counsel is not available. The EC had asked Soren for a personal hearing in the matter either personally or through his counsel and was scheduled for Tuesday. Fresh date of June 28 has been granted to him.
