Militants reportedly attacked troopers of 19 Battalion of Assam Rifles near Hetlong village while they were going to collect drinking water in a water tanker.

Police suspect around 30 terrorists belonging to the Paresh Baruah faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-Independent) and the Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) were behind the ambush.

“The militants triggered an IED blast before resorting to indiscriminate firing. Full details are still awaited,” sources said. — IANS
