India’s Covid-19 case fatality rate today dropped to a low of 1.5 per cent, the lowest since March 22. Daily deaths fell below 500 to 480, the first record drop for a 24-hour period since July 10 when 475 deaths were reported.

“Today’s fatalities are the lowest in 108 days. The figure peaked to 1,290 on September 16 and has since been dropping,” an official said as daily new infections fell below 50,000 for the second time this month.

Total recoveries stood at 71,37,228, making up 90.23 per cent of all cases. Surging recoveries mean active cases stayed below 7 lakh for the fourth day, making up 8.26 per cent of the caseload. — TNS
