Mumbai: A 12-year-old Mumbai student, Kaamya Karthikeyan, has set a record of becoming the youngest in the world to summit Mt Aconcagua, the highest peak of the Andes Mountains in Argentina, South America, an official said here on Sunday. Kaamya, a Class VII student, achieved the feat atop the 6,962-metre-high mountain on February 1 where she unfurled the Tricolour. No stranger to tall mountains, Kaamya had summited Ladakh’s 6,260-metre Mt Mentok Kangri II under extreme cold weather conditions on August 24, 2019. Her father is a Navy Commander and her mother a teacher. IANS

A first: Cocker spaniel gets pacemaker implant

New Delhi: In a novel development in the country’s veterinary annals, a seven-and-a-half-year-old cocker spaniel has undergone a pacemaker implant surgery which vet surgeons claim to be the first in India. An imported paediatric pacemaker was implanted in the female dog, Khushi, who had developed a complete heart block that led to her heart rate dropping to 20 beats per minute as against the normal 60-120. Netizens go gaga over orangutan’s helping hand

New Delhi: A recent picture of an orangutan offering a helping hand to a man stuck in snake-infested water is making the rounds on social media as netizens go gaga over the gesture. In the picture, an orangutan can be seen stretching his hand to help out a man stuck in snake-infested water. According to media, this picture was reportedly captured by amateur photographer Anil Prabhakar. The moving encounter between the orangutan and the man has melted hearts all over the world. IANS
