The BJP was caught in an embarrassing situation when first a union minister declared that “Metro Man” E Sreedharan had been declared its CM candidate for the upcoming Kerala Assembly polls and later retracted the statement.

The declaration, that Sreedharan is BJP’ face for Kerala, was first made by state BJP chief K Surendran. Union Minister V Muraleedharan reiterated it saying, “The BJP will fight Kerala polls with E Sreedharan as its chief ministerial candidate.”

Later, Muraleedharan made a U-turn saying no such decision had been made. “What I wanted to tell was that through media reports I learnt the party has made this announcement. Later, I cross-checked with the party chief who said he hasn’t made such announcement,” he said. — TNS
