New Delhi, March 21

Apart from Uttarakhand, the BJP on Monday also ended the suspense in Goa, announcing another term for Pramod Sawant, who was elected the leader of the legislature party in the presence of party’s observers — union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity to work as the Chief Minister for the next five years, Sawant said: “I am glad the people of Goa have accepted me. I will do everything possible to work for the development of the state.”

Notably, the announcement came 11 days after the BJP emerged as the single largest party on March 10, winning 20 out of 40 seats in the Assembly elections. According to party leaders here, the process of government formation in the four states was “slightly delayed” due to Holi celebrations.

Meanwhile, Sawant has also secured the support of two MLAs of the MGP and three Independent MLAs, placing the BJP in a comfortable position in terms of numbers in the Assembly.
