Gurugram, March 29

Five migrants were killed and eight critically injured when a canter carrying vegetables rammed into them here last night.

The deceased were part of a group of around 15 person who were going to their native places in UP and were waiting to get a ride.

The truck, reportedly going from Ahmedabad to Ghaziabad, went out of control and rammed into the group, including three men, woman and a child. The truck driver, identified as Rakesh Yadav, a native of Bulandshahar in UP, was nabbed. He claimed that his vehicle’s brake failed.

“We were waiting for a bus. Suddenly, a speeding Canter first collided with autos, then hit us,” Kuldeep, one of the injured. Following his complaint, an FIR has been registered against the driver under Sections 279, 336, 337, 304(ii) of the IPC.

“We are trying to identify the deceased and inform families. We have been issuing appeal to people not to trek to their villages, but desperation to get back has cost them their live,” said ASI Rajender Singh.
