Sonu has about half a dozen cattle smuggling and cow slaughtering cases registered against him, according to police.

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap in Mushkinagar village under Safdarganj Police Station to arrest Sonu, however, he opened fire at the police team, Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said.

In retaliatory firing, Sonu got hit on the leg while a policeman too sustained injuries, Prasad said, adding that the accused was arrested from Mushkinagar crossing.
